This invention relates to a pulse displacement element for generating a pulse signal whose width is modulated in response to a modulating signal, and more particularly to a pulse displacement element suitable for generating a modulated pulse signal having a plurality of signal levels.
2. Description of the Prior Art
Pulse displacement elements are known as a pulse generating element for generating a pulse signal having a predetermined width or signal level from an inputted pulse signal having a predetermined width or signal level. Such a pulse displacement element can be used, for example, as a signal generating circuit for generating a pulse signal having a predetermined width, such as a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal, from an inputted pulse signal. A pulse displacement element can also be used as an element for generating a pulse signal whose width is modulated, for example, a pulse width modulated signal, by a modulating signal.
Heretofore, there has been proposed a pulse displacement element of a type comprising a capacitor which is charged with the width of an input pulse, and connected with an output terminal through an output capacitor of which the charging is terminated, so that a pulse signal having a width corresponding to the charged state of the capacitor is outputted. In such a pulse displacement element of the type, an output pulse signal having a predetermined width and corresponding to an input pulse signal can be obtained.
FIG. 1 shows an example of such a pulse displacement element.
